CalendarProject
A self-hosted, touchscreen-first family calendar and household dashboard designed to keep busy households synchronized without cloud lock-in.
Overview
CalendarProject is an autonomous, privately deployed software system created by Cornfield Codeworks. It serves as an appliance-like central coordination hub for a family home, showing at-a-glance scheduling, upcoming events, household member assignments, and local weather conditions on a dedicated wall-mounted touchscreen terminal.
The application is self-hosted on private local network hardware. It is designed specifically for personal and household productivity and is not a publicly accessible multi-tenant cloud service.
Third-Party Calendar Synchronization
To prevent scheduling conflicts across personal and household commitments, CalendarProject provides optional, bidirectional calendar synchronization with external calendar providers:
- Google Calendar: Authorized via Google OAuth 2.0.
- Apple / iCloud Calendar: Authorized via standard CalDAV protocol using Apple App-Specific Passwords.
Google Calendar Integration Details
When household administrators choose to connect a Google account, CalendarProject interacts with Google APIs strictly to fulfill user-requested calendar synchronization:
- Explicit User Authorization: CalendarProject only accesses Google Calendar data after a user explicitly authorizes the application via the standard Google OAuth 2.0 consent dialog.
-
Calendar Discovery & Reading: CalendarProject requests access to view calendar metadata and event schedules (using the
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendarscope) so household members can select which personal or shared calendars should be reflected on the household wall display. - Event Creation, Updates & Deletions: When an event is scheduled or modified on the household calendar and assigned to synchronize with an external calendar, CalendarProject pushes corresponding event updates to the user's selected Google Calendar. If an event is modified or removed in Google Calendar, those updates are reflected back on the household display.
-
Account Identification: The user's email address (accessed via the
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/userinfo.emailscope) is used solely to identify the connected account within the local application settings interface so administrators know which account is active. - Security & Token Encryption: OAuth access and refresh tokens are stored exclusively within the user's private, self-hosted database and are encrypted at rest using industry-standard authenticated encryption (AES-256-GCM). Tokens are never exposed to browser clients, transmitted over unencrypted connections, or shared with third parties.
Limited Use Disclosure: CalendarProject's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Privacy & Data Ownership
Cornfield Codeworks is committed to strict user privacy:
- Google user data is used solely to provide the calendar synchronization requested by the user.
- Google user data is never sold or shared for marketing purposes.
- Google user data is never used for advertising or tracking.
- Google user data is never used to train generalized artificial intelligence or machine learning models.
- Users can disconnect and revoke access at any time through the application settings or directly from their Google Account Security Permissions.
